Bread Machine Homemade Bagels

bread machine homemade bagels 5d8b377779329 - Bread Machine Homemade Bagels

There’s nothing more delicious than bread machine homemade bagels fresh out of the oven.

Most people stay clear of making these yummy bread donuts due to fear of the labor intensive process.

So I removed much of the process by bringing in a trusty bread machine to take care of the dough aspect making the rest of the process so much easier.

These bagels are fluffy and so full of flavor and are the perfect vessel for any of your favorite toppings!

1 1/2 cups warm water
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 1/2 cups high gluten flour (flour in Canada is already high gluten!)

1 egg white plus 1 teaspoon of milk

Toppings (sesame seeds, poppy seeds, coarse salt or whatever you are craving!)

Using a bread machine add the water first, followed by the yeast, sugar, salt and flour.

Set your bread machine to the dough setting and allow the bread machine to do its magic!

If you are wanting to add goodies to the bagels such as blueberries or chocolate chips, add it after the dough has set the first time and before it kneads it the last time in the maker.

After the bread machine has finished the dough remove it from the maker and carefully divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape the dough into smooth round balls.

Do this by pulling the dough down and pushing it into the bottom of the bagel.  This creates a smooth surface.

Poke one of your fingers into the middle of the dough ball and gently pull the dough so that the hole in the middle gets larger creating your standard bagel shape.

Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet (or lightly oiled if you have no parchment paper) and cover with a lightly damp cloth.

Preheat your oven to 425*

Preheat your oven to 425* and put a large pot of water onto boil while they rise.

Allow the water to hard boil then turn the temp down to med so the hard boil stops but the water is still piping hot.

Place 3-4 bagels into the water at a time (or as many as you can handle).

Boil each side for one minute each, or 2 minutes per side if you prefer a chewier bagel.

If you are choosing to add toppings to your bread machine homemade bagels have them ready for when the bagels come out of the hot water.

Lightly coat with an egg wash and add your toppings.  I chose to use a maple powder to top half of mine off with!

Bake your bagels for 20 minutes or until golden brown on the outside then cool on a wire rack.

Now that Fall is in the air and the days are getting cooler, Potato and Cheddar Vegetable Soup Recipe makes it’s way onto the weekly menu.

I love simple and flavorful soups and this hearty potato and cheddar vegetable soup recipe is just that.

Loaded with fresh veggies and cheddar cheese, this vegetable soup can be ready to serve in about 30 minutes.

What I love most about this soup is if you don’t have a certain vegetable, substitute for whatever you have in the fridge.

Peppers could be added, spinach and kale as well. This is the recipe that we love, and the boys will actually eat.

Serve with fresh bread and sharp cheddar (or even a jalapeno jack).

Smokey Ham and Lentil Pasta Salad

smokey ham and lentil pasta salad 5d8b3444558bd - Smokey Ham and Lentil Pasta Salad

A lentil pasta salad may not seem like it should be a staple in your house but trust me when I say it should be.

With smokey ham and three different types of vegetables lentil pasta salad is a healthy side or main dish.

Kids and adults will enjoy it.

Smokey Ham and Lentil Pasta salad is also a great pick for your next potluck.

Just increase the amount of the ingredients as needed.

There is mayonnaise in the dish so it will need to be kept chilled but since it can be served cold it is still a good option for summer picnics.

Smokey Ham And Lentil Pasta Salad Recipe

Serves 8-10

  • 8oz penne pasta, cooked & drained
  • 1/2 lb lentils
  • 1/2 lb ham steak, cubed
  • 1 small broccoli crown, chopped
  • 1 small red pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed
  • 1/2 cup Italian Dressing
  • 2/3 cup Mayonnaise
  • Salt & Pepper

To prepare the lentils, soak them for 10 minutes (even though the bag says no soaking required).

It will speed up the cooking process.

Remove any that float to the surface, these are more than likely dried up and do not need to be in your finished dish.

Drain the water and start fresh cooking per the bag instructions.

Add a few cubes of ham to the lentils while they cook.

When the lentils are fork tender (be careful not to over cook or they will be mushy), remove from heat and set aside to cool.

In a large bowl- add the dressing and mayonnaise.

Mix well.

Add the pasta, chopped broccoli, diced red pepper, peas, cubed ham and cold lentils.
