Who is Cody Fox?

Cody Fox Death, Deadly Accident

Tragic is the only way Marion County officials can describe Saturday’s accident.

Marion County locals Cody Fox and his 9-month-old daughter were killed in a car accident in Butler County, Alabama.

“I’ve known him for quite a few years,” says South Pittsburgh Fire Chief Corey Comstock. “He’s done a lot for the community.”

We reached out to a number of Fox’s friends and family members on social media and his kindness was a recurring theme.

“He’s been an upstanding young man in the community,” says Comstock.

The South Pittsburg Mountain Volunteer Fire Department posted this on Facebook sending thoughts and prayers to family and friends of Cody and Ariana:

Cody Fox Career

Fox was a former volunteer firefighter at South Pittsburgh. He also co-owned a local pool and spa company and worked at the Marion County EMA Center.

“[You] hate to lose anybody, but especially somebody like him,” Comstock said.

Richard Hardy Memorial School released a statement about Cody Fox and Ariana Fox. According to the Facebook post, Cody was an alumnus of the school.

Cody and Ariana were killed returning from a vacation trip according to the post.

ABC News has confirmed 10 people have died after a multi-car accident in Butler County, Alabama, including two people from Marion County.

Confirmed to ABC News by Butler County coroner, Wayne Garlock; Cody Fox (29) and Ariana Fox (9 months) were father and daughter. They both died in the accident after their SUV overturned. Cody was pronounced dead at the scene; Ariana died at a hospital.

Garlock says the crash involved 15 cars after one car is believed to have hydroplaned.

The 8 other deaths were children ages 4-17. They were traveling in a Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch bus. The children and the driver were the only ones on the bus. The driver was rescued by a bystander who got out of his car and pulled the driver to safety. The bystander tried to then help the kids inside but the bus was already engulfed by smoke and flames and he could not get to them.

Garlock says none of the other people involved in the accident appear to have life-threatening injuries. One woman is in a Montgomery hospital with broken bones.

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Butler County has claimed the life of 10 individuals, including nine children. Troopers within the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division were notified at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19, of a multi-vehicle crash on I-65 northbound at the 138 mile marker. Once on scene, ALEA Troopers discovered a total of 17 vehicles, including two commercial vehicles, were involved in the crash; seven of the 17 vehicles were ablaze. As a result of the crash, Cody Fox, 29, of New Hope, Tenn., and his 9-month-old daughter, also of New Hope, Tenn., were pronounced deceased at the scene. Fatalities also include a 3-year-old, 8-year-old, 12-year-old, 14-year-old, 15-year-old, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old. All of the juveniles were from Alabama and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Investigating fatal crashes is one of the most difficult responsibilities of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency,” ALEA’s Secretary of Law Enforcement Hal Taylor said. “Yesterday, was an extremely heartbreaking day for the state of Alabama as 10 lives were tragically lost in one horrific event. I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the friends and families of loved ones lost in Saturday’s terrible crash, as well as my gratitude to all of the first responders and volunteers who quickly and valiantly responded to the scene. It was a difficult and unimaginable scene for many, and our thoughts and prayers are with all involved as we continue to investigate and provide closure for those affected.”

Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers, along with investigators from the National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB), continue to investigate.
